FREEZE DRILLS This drill, again, taught by Zulu Gremlin at the Red Bull camp. Basic idea is to build strength in both arms, balance, and control for good form. Start with the baby position, switch legs, then transfer over to the other side with a baby, switch legs, then repeat. Try not to go too high on your head during the transfer like I did. Once you master this, try without using your...

I have no visual to go along with today’s post, so here’s a footwork drill I learned from The RedBull camp. BATTLE STRATEGY #23 Sometimes skills alone cant win the battle. It is a “battle”, so its only right to strategically plan out how you’ll win. Here’s one tip I found helpful. This only works if the judges are judging round by round (whoever wins the most rounds moves on.) Here’s...

REDBULL BEATRIDERS 2004 →
Im going to dedicate fridays to retro footage of either myself or an old clip that has inspired me.  It only makes sense to call it footage fridays. Redbull BeatRiders is a camp for selected dancers with potential to inspire and lead.  In order to have been selected you would need to audition with a video demo.  I found out about this the day before the deadline!  Fortunately, I had...

MORE BACKROCKS Part II of backrocks include my continuous backrocks, ankle wraps, and highrocks. My motivation for the highrocks, goes back to the “Is it a footwork?” fued. Used the same pattern from a backrock and made it up higher to blend in with more common footworks. Enjoy! JERMZ

BACKROCKS Is it a footwork move? Some say yes because of its juggle style. Some say no because its not on all fours and no circular pattern. Was it created from someone that fell on their back and needed an escape? Word! Should it be used exclusively as an escape route? Of course not! Let it be a transition move. Let it be a footwork, and let it be whatever you create it to be.  Not many do...

ONE LEG SIX STEP In this variation of the 6-step Im only using 1 leg, making it a 3 step with a 6 step motion. Ah, confused yet? Anyway, these are not my steps, just thought I’d share the versions I’ve seen. I start with just the left leg, then 6 step into the right leg. Try this out, and then apply the ‘1 leg’ adjustment to other steps, whether it be basic foundation, or a creative footwork...

BATCH DROPS In my clip, I demo the 6-step, Batch 6 step, then my variation of the Batch 6 step, the Batch Drops. Hence the name, you’ll notice I ‘drop’ my head and add the baby position mid-move. NOW RECORDING
After learning basic break steps, I reached the next level, which was to create my own steps.  Picking up inspiration from what I’ve seen in person, and what I’ve seen in the media and mixing them into my moves.  There is a formula I discovered through observing other dancers.  My ideas continued to flow and I needed to find a way to record my moves.  I picked up a small notepad, and...
