One thing that bothers me about judges is that they setup the battle brackets based on previous performance. In a typical Bboy competition, an elimination bracket is used, in other words, if you lose then you’re out. Anyway I believe at the start of a battle, all crews should be treated equally no matter what skill level or history. By placing the best crews on opposite ends of the bracket shows an obvious bias towards those crews which will make for a great final battle, but doesn’t stop to think about how it will affect the scene. I understand spectators come to see a good show, but these events are especially for the dancers specifically. To build a stronger scene, sometimes all that is needed is a confidence boost.
For instance, take a team that has never made it past the first round Reaching semifinals or finals for them can give them a new sense of confidence, make them train harder, which then will make for better crews better competition and a better show for the spectators. The strongest team will still win no matter how the brackets are set up.
And to close out, this is strictly my opinion/rant.
