I had a discussion with a friend about how a dance scene grows and what it needs to stay strong.
We touched upon different ways to get the dance scene to grow. One of them is to get those who are interested in the scene to actually and hopefully consistently attend dance events (shows, competitions, practices). Take a music artist for instance. Listening to them on the radio is a completely different experience from seeing them front row seat at a concert. The same goes for a dancer watching a battle on YouTube as opposed to seeing it in person. It’s more inspiring, motivating, and if you’re a new dancer, it’s a fresh feeling, almost overwhelming. I think that continual support is what we need as a dance community. I come from a city that has potential and talent but needs more people to expose themselves in order to grow. I decided to take up the task of giving those who cant drive a ride to jams. Too many have given up or lost interest and it’s sad to see. Being an older dancer in my city, I feel as if I was partly responsible for that. It has always been a personal goal of mine to motivate and bring out the confidence we all have.
